As a result of the war in Ukraine, which escalated into a full-scale invasion in February 2022, many families have faced conflicts due to differences in views on life during the war and raising children in the new realities.
One such family was that of Ms. Olena* and her children. Due to constant conflicts with her husband, the father of her children, and the inability to find common ground, they were forced to move to another city.
Ms. Olena realized that her and her husband's life paths were diverging, so she decided to initiate a divorce and settle the issue of child support.
Due to active hostilities, Ms. Olena and her children were forced to move to Kramatorsk. However, in March 2022, the Kramatorsk City Court ceased to function, and she found herself in a difficult position to take further action. Olena also needed support in preparing an application to the court.
Thanks to caring people, Olena found out about the Dialogue of Communities charitable organization, which provides free legal aid. The organization's lawyer, Oleksandr, helped her prepare a statement of claim and provided step-by-step recommendations on how to file it with the court.
A month later, the court ruled in favor of Olena: the marriage was dissolved and the issue of child support was resolved in accordance with the law. This decision allowed Olena to focus on creating a stable future for her family.
Free legal aid is provided by the Charitable Organization “Dialogue of Communities” within the framework of a project implemented in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) with the financial support of the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine.
