Ms. Svitlana* turned to the Caritas Kharkiv for legal assistance regarding her father's failure to pay child support for her minor child.
During the consultation, the lawyer found out that during the evacuation from the combat zone, the child's birth certificate, the only document confirming the child's identity, was lost, and the loss of which makes it impossible to protect and realize the child's rights.
Now Svitlana and her young son live in Pisochyn, Kharkiv region, and are unable to obtain a duplicate birth certificate at their place of residence, as the civil registry office is currently out of operation. Angelina, a lawyer at Caritas Kharkiv, suggested that she apply for a duplicate document online through the Diia portal and receive the original duplicate certificate through Ukrposhta postal services.
After obtaining the necessary documents, the woman can pursue further judicial protection of her son's rights to receive the necessary payments for his upbringing.
Providing free legal aid to the war-affected population in Kharkiv region was made possible through the cooperation of Caritas Kharkiv with the Danish Refugee Council thanks to the financial support of the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine (HFU).
