During the process of inheritance registration, Mr. Oleh* discovered the existence of a seizure on property that belonged to his late mother. According to a certificate issued by the Department of the State Enforcement Service (SES), it was revealed that back in 2012, a seizure had been imposed on a plot of land and a residential house in the village where the man still resides.
As a result, the notary was forced to refuse Oleh in the inheritance registration. In February 2024, the man began contacting state uthorities to lift the seizure but faced refusals since the enforcement proceedings from that period had already been destroyed due to the expiration of the storage term. He approached a credit union, which confirmed the absence of debt, removing the last grounds for the seizure. The Synelnykove community, where Oleh lives, is constantly under shelling. This added to his anxiety, as in the case of property damage, he would not be able to claim financial aid for restoration. In this challenging situation, the man sought support from the NGO "STEP." Lawyer Andrii carefully examined the case's circumstances, identified valid grounds for challenging the seizure, and prepared all necessary documents for a court appeal.
Thanks to the legal support of NGO "STEP," Oleh obtained a court decision lifting the seizure on the property. This allowed him to contact the notary and complete the inheritance registration process.
NGO "STEP" provides free legal assistance to war-affected populations in collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) thanks to the generous support of the American people provided through the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
