Oleksandr Vasylovych* is an IDP from Mariupol who now lives in Poltava with his family.
He turned to the lawyers of the NGO “Institute of Analysis and Advocacy” (IAA) with a request for compensation for persons who sustained mine-blast injuries and, as a result, disability as a result of the war. During the consultation, it turned out that the company where he worked had not made a full settlement with him upon his dismissal. In particular, he was not paid compensation for the period of temporary disability.
The lawyer found out that the company was in the process of liquidation due to bankruptcy, which could have led to lengthy litigation. Since it was critical for Oleksandr Vasylovych to receive funds in the near future, an out-of-court settlement strategy was chosen through negotiations with the company's management.
Effective communication resulted in an agreement under which the company agreed to pay compensation in full. The funds were transferred within five days after the agreement was signed.
Conciliatory, pre-trial procedures should be used in the course of providing legal aid to recipients of assistance, as they are effective and significantly save time during which long court proceedings can last, and allow for a faster result.

Free legal aid in Poltava region is provided by the NGO “Institute of Analysis and Advocacy” in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and with funding from the European Union.
