After the death of her husband in 2012, Ms. Tetyana did not go to a notary to formalize her inheritance. The couple had been married and lived together all their lives. Now, living in Poltava, Ms. Tetyana faced the need to organize her housing titles.
However, when she applied to a notary in Poltava, she was denied a certificate of inheritance for an apartment located in the Bakhmut district, due to the lack of confirmation of the fact of cohabitation with her husband at the time of his death.
To solve this problem, Ms. Tetyana turned to the lawyer of the NGO “Institute of Analysis and Advocacy” for help. The lawyer provided a consultation and made a request to the Toretsk City Military Administration to obtain a certificate confirming cohabitation at the time of her husband's death.
In October 2024, Ms. Tetyana received such a certificate from the head of the residence registration department of the Toretsk City Military Administration of the Bakhmut District of Donetsk Oblast.
After that, Ms. Tetyana gathered a full package of necessary documents, submitted them to a notary, and successfully received a certificate of inheritance by law.
Free legal aid in Poltava region is provided by the NGO “Institute of Analysis and Advocacy” in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and with funding from the European Union.
