Assistance to a disabled person in receiving state benefits

In May 2024, after an information session in the Pisochyn community, a local resident, Ms. Svitlana, turned to the lawyer of Caritas Kharkiv. She said that her neighbor Oleksandr, an IDP from Bakhmut, had lost his home because of the war. In addition, he had cancer and speech problems. Because of this, Oleksandr could not explain his situation on his own, and Svitlana, as a member of the Union of People with Disabilities, helped him communicate with lawyers.

At the first meeting, the lawyer explained how to enter information about the destroyed housing in the state register and file a claim for destruction.

In June 2024, Svitlana and Oleksandr applied for help again. Oleksandr had not received state aid as an IDP since June 2023, although he had submitted all the necessary documents. Due to his speech impairment, he was unable to resolve this issue on his own in the social security authorities and told Svitlana about it when he had no money to live on.

After collecting the necessary documents, the lawyer of Caritas Kharkiv appealed to the social protection department. Oleksandr's application was accepted, and in August 2024 he received all the payments he owed for the year.
