Ms. Valentyna* turned to a lawyer of Caritas Kharkiv, a charity organization supported by DRC. The woman owns two houses in the Kharkiv region, which are located on the same land plot. During active hostilities in 2022, one house was destroyed by shelling, and the other was damaged during the occupation of the village.
Valentyna knew about the state program of compensation for damaged or destroyed housing, eVodnovlennya. However, to participate in it, she had to solve legal problems with registration, because both houses were registered at the same address.
The lawyer of Caritas Kharkiv helped Valentyna to obtain a conclusion from the Bureau of Technical Inventory (BTI) on the division of the houses and the land plot, as well as to assign two different addresses to each. In addition, the BTI issued two technical passports, and the lawyer filed an application with the state registrar to terminate the ownership of the destroyed house.
Thanks to this legal support, Valentyna was able to receive a state certificate of compensation for the destroyed house, which means she can buy a new home. She will also be able to apply for compensation for her damaged house when the program is launched in the region.
Caritas Kharkiv provides free legal aid to the war-affected population in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) thanks to the generous support of the American people through the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance people through the Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
