After systematic shelling of the village of Yastrubyne in the Mykolaiv rural community of Sumy region, Anatolii’s house was damaged. Seeking a solution, he applied for legal assistance from the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) to find out whether he could receive compensation.
At first, the man decided not to rush with submitting documents. However, after another attack, his house was completely destroyed.
A DRC lawyer explained the procedure for obtaining compensation, helped prepare the necessary documents, assisted with entering ownership information into the State Register of Rights to Immovable Property through the Administrative Service Centre (CNAP), and submitted an application to the Register of Damaged and Destroyed Property. During the stage of applying to the Commission reviewing compensation for destroyed immovable property, difficulties arose with the remote assessment of the destroyed house. Therefore, the DRC lawyer provided support in arranging assistance from an independent technical specialist and in obtaining the technical report.
Soon afterwards, Anatolii received a housing certificate from the state for the purchase of new housing. He is currently choosing a new home for his family.
DRC provides free legal aid in Sumy region thanks to funding by the European Union.
