Is it possible to transport animals by rail, and what is required for this?

Transportation of animals by rail is permitted subject to the following requirements:

1. Documents:

  • For transportation, a veterinary document (veterinary passport ) with vaccination marks, in particular against rabies, is required.

2. Conditions of transportation:

  • Small pets (up to two individuals):
  • They are transported in special means of transportation (cage, container, box, or other rigid container).
  • The size of the container must comply with the standards for hand luggage.
  • Large breed dogs (above 45 cm at the withers):
  • Allowed in the vestibule of the carriage, no more than one dog per vestibule.
  • Dogs must be:
  • Wearing a muzzle.
  • On a strong metal or leather leash.
  • Under the constant supervision of an attendant.

3. Tariff:

  • Payment for the transportation of the animal is made at the baggage rate as for 20 kg of weight.
  • For small animals that fit in the size of hand luggage, payment is made according to the hand luggage rates.

Important notes:

  • Not all types of train carriages are suitable for transportation of large dogs.
  • If you have any conflicts or questions about the conditions of transportation, you should check the rules directly with the carrier.
