What social aid are provided to a person who is appointed curator of an elderly person?

General rule:

Social assistance to a carer appointed to look after an elderly person is not provided.

Exceptions:

Under certain conditions, caregivers can receive:

1. Compensation for care:

  • For persons who provide care on a non-professional basis, compensation is paid if the average monthly income does not exceed the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons.
  • The subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons as of 2024 is UAH 3,028.

2. Additional payment for caring for a person with a disability:

  • A caregiver can receive assistance if the elderly person has a disability of group I or II.
  • It is necessary to provide documents confirming the disability and the fact of care.

3. Social services from the state:

  • Carers can apply to social security authorities for assistance in the form of:
  • counselling;
  • social support;
  • temporary rest (respite care) for carers.

Important:

In order to receive any social benefits or services, a caregiver must apply to the social security authorities at the place of residence with a relevant application and supporting documents.
