What are the responsibilities of pet owners under the law?

The owner of a pet in Ukraine is obliged to:

1. Provide proper conditions for the animal:

  • Provide conditions appropriate to the biological, species, and individual characteristics of the animal.
  • Provide:
  • Sufficient food and water.
  • Ability to make necessary movements and contact with other animals.
  • Timely provision of veterinary services (examination, treatment, vaccinations, etc.).

2. Comply with sanitary and hygienic standards:

  • Ensure that the place where the animal is kept is clean.
  • Do not violate the norms of coexistence with other people.

3. Follow the rules of walking and escorting:

  • To ensure:
  • Safety of others and constant supervision of the animal.
  • Availability:
  • Collar with identifying markings.
  • Leash.
  • Muzzling (for certain breeds or in certain locations).

4. Breeding control:

  • Prevent uncontrolled animal reproduction.

5. Response to incidents:

  • Immediately notify medical or veterinary authorities of incidents in which an animal has caused harm to humans or other animals.

Warning:

  • Failure to comply with these obligations may result in administrative or even criminal liability.
