Which population groups are most vulnerable to gender-based violence (GBV)?

Share

GBV can affect anyone - both women and men. However, in over 90% of cases, the survivors are women and girls. This is due to deeply rooted gender inequality, discrimination, and widespread societal tolerance of violence against women in many communities.

In addition to women, the groups most vulnerable to GBV include:

  • Children and adolescents
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Elderly people
  • LGBTIQ+ people
  • Internally displaced persons (IDPs)
  • People living with HIV/AIDS
  • Ethnic (including the Roma community), national, or racial minorities, though not limited to these
