What is the responsibility for animal cruelty?

Administrative liability:
1. For abuse of animals that caused physical pain, suffering, but did not result in bodily harm or death:
- Penalty: from 200 to 300 tax-free minimum incomes (UAH 3400-5100).
2. For repeated actions during the year, actions against two or more animals or a group of persons:
- Penalty: 300 to 500 tax-free minimum incomes (UAH 5100-8500).
- Or administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
Criminal liability:
1. For causing bodily harm that resulted in injury or death, as well as setting animals against each other:
- Restriction of liberty: from 1 to 3 years.
- Or imprisonment: 2 to 3 years with confiscation of the animal.
2. Aggravating circumstances:
- If the actions are committed with particular cruelty, against several animals, in the presence of children, or repeatedly:
- Imprisonment: 5 to 8 years with confiscation of the animal.

- To calculate fines, the non-taxable minimum income of citizens (NMIC) is used, which is UAH 17.
