Passport validity extension

The validity of a passport can be extended for 5 years. To do this, you must submit an application to the passport holder or the child's legal representative (if the passport is issued for a person under 16 years of age).

The application can be submitted:

  • After the expiration of the passport: Renewal is carried out for 5 years from the date of application. For example, if the passport expired on October 1, 2023, and the application was submitted on 3 October 2023, the passport will be valid until 3 October 2028.
  • Before the expiration date of the passport (but not earlier than 2 months): The extension is carried out for 5 years from the day following the expiration date. For example, if the passport expires on 3 October 2023, and the application is submitted on 1 August 2023, the passport will be valid until 4 October 2028.

Where to apply

  • In Ukraine: To the State Migration Service.
  • Abroad: To the embassy or consular office of Ukraine.

Alternative option

If your passport has expired and cannot be renewed, you can obtain a return certificate to return to Ukraine by contacting a Ukrainian consular office abroad.
