Ukrainians arriving in Austria can stay in the country without a visa for up to 90 days. To extend their stay and receive social support, as in other EU countries, it is necessary to obtain a residence permit (temporary protection status) in Austria. Currently, the residence permit (temporary protection) for individuals from Ukraine has been automatically extended until March 4, 2024.
You can enter Austria with one of the following documents:
• biometric passport;
• Ukrainian ID card or internal passport. However, entry without a biometric passport is allowed only for Ukrainian citizens fleeing armed conflict. This rule does not apply to regular travel;
• birth certificate (for children under 16 traveling with parents). Children have the right to cross the border with one of the parents (without the official permission of the other parent). If the child is traveling with acquaintances or relatives, they must have written permission from one of the parents, notarized.
Important! If the passport is expired or the person arrived with a child without a biometric passport, please contact the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria.
Note that if a person has lost their passport or its validity has expired, they can also obtain a certificate of identity for return to Ukraine (so-called "white passport"). For more information on the procedure and cases where this issuance is possible, read the details via the provided link.
