Ukrainian people can enter Hungary with a biometric passport or a valid Schengen visa as of April 2023. Ukrainian citizens are not permitted to enter Hungary with a birth certificate, Ukrainian internal passport in the form of a booklet or ID card, or without papers.

If a foreign passport's validity is about to expire, the Ukrainian Embassy in Hungary and the Ukrainian Consulate in Nyregyháza will temporarily extend the validity of Ukrainian citizens' foreign passports for travel abroad for 5 years and include data on children under the age of 16 in the foreign passport.
To prolong the validity period of a passport, the applicant has to provide their existing valid passport. The passport can be renewed no earlier than two months before its expiration date.
The applicant must submit the following documents to add a child's info to the passport:
- A valid passport;
- the child's birth certificate;
- two 3.5x4.5 cm photos; and
- a document proving the person's capacity as the legal representation (if applicable).
These consular services are available during the institutions' reception hours (every working day from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) and are free on the day of application.
