Social protection of family members of missing persons

Disabled family members of a person missing under special circumstances are entitled to a survivor's pension.

  • The pension is granted from the moment the information about the missing person is entered into the Unified Register of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances and is paid throughout the period when the person has this status.
  • The right is granted regardless of the presence or duration of the missing person's insurance record.
  • If the whereabouts of the missing person are established, his or her burial is found or the remains are discovered, family members may receive a survivor's pension on a general basis.

In addition, family members of servicemen who went missing are entitled to additional social guarantees provided for by the legislation of Ukraine, in particular:

  • monthly payment of financial support;
  • receiving preferential vouchers for sanatorium and resort treatment;
  • priority provision of housing in case of need to improve living conditions;
  • 50% discount on housing and utility bills within the established norms;
  • provision of land plots and assistance in the construction of private residential buildings;
  • non-competitive admission of children to state and municipal educational institutions for three years after they have completed general secondary education;
  • free travel by all types of public urban passenger transport for parents of military personnel;
  • payment of a one-time financial compensation to parents and minor children, as well as children with disabilities from childhood of servicemen.
