What does the status of temporary protection in Austria include and how does it affect travel to EU countries?

Share

With temporary protection status, you can travel to EU countries for up to 90 days and leave Ukraine for a short period without losing the right to reside in Austria. If you plan to return to Ukraine permanently, you must go through the deregistration procedure at the institution where you were granted protection.

Before you leave Austria, you must notify the Federal Office and send a Displaced Persons ID by post. Look for the address of the office by following the link.

It should be noted that if your Austrian ID card (Ausweis für Vertriebene) has expired and you return to the country while temporary protection for Ukrainians is still valid, you are entitled to temporary protection under Austrian law. In this case, you can apply for a new ID card for displaced persons.

The EU migration calculator helps to calculate the number of days of stay in EU countries for those who do not apply for temporary protection.
