School age in Germany - 6 years old.
The school education is mandatory and completely free.
Important!
Children from Ukraine do not have to register as refugees or receive temporary protection after the first 90 days of their stay in Germany in order to attend school.
In order to enrol/register your child in the local school, you will need to submit the following documents to the school:
- your passport or ID card;
- your residence permit;
- the registration certificate (registration certificate proving your address that you will receive when registering at the local citizens' office "Bürgeramt");
- a confirmation that your child has taken part in the school entry health test (you will receive a written invitation for this test from the Health Office for school entry health tests.); and
- documents from the country of origin (child's identification card or passport, birth certificate, etc.).
Please, contact your local school to enrol/register your child and ask about any additional documents you may need to provide as the school registration procedure differs from state to state.

A child will attend "integration classes" to adapt himself/herself to the learning conditions and improve language skills.
