Car registration in Italy

Share

Starting from March 2022, some vehicles registered abroad, for example in Ukraine, which are currently in Italy, must obtain an Italian foreign vehicle registration, in the other words be included in the REVE (Register of Foreign Vehicles). More information at the link.

If a person entered Italy as a tourist and stayed for 90 days, he or she is not required to register a vehicle. The obligation to register vehicles in Italy applies only to those Ukrainians (members of their families) who have a residence permit (residencia) in Italy or a long-term visa with the right to stay in the country for more than 90 days. In this case, you have to register your vehicle within 3 months from the date of obtaining a residence permit or a special Schengen visa.

You can register for REVE at the offices of the PRA (Public Vehicle Registry) or through the STA (Electronic Motorist Meter), which is issued with a certificate that must be presented to the police in case of an inspection.

The specified registration must be cancelled and renewed in the event of a change of residence of the car owner or expiration of the rental / leasing contract if the car is rented or leased.

If a Ukrainian remains in Italy and has one of the types of international protection, he/she does not have the obligation to register a vehicle during the entire period of validity of such protection.
