Car registration and driving license eligibility

You can drive a vehicle in Spain with a Ukrainian driver's license for one year from the date you obtained temporary protection.

Following that, you will be able to exchange your Ukrainian driver's license for a Spanish one. To do so, call 060 or use the Electronic Office of the Directorate General of Traffic, indicating the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Traffic where you intend to carry out the exchange procedure.

Documents required for the exchange:

1. NIE (foreigner identification number); 

2. place of residence registration; 

3. driver's license, original and photocopy; 

4. medical certificate issued by the medical examination center for drivers;

5. 32x26 photo; 

6. photo voucher (provided by Traffic Headquarters); 

7. written statement that the driver's license has not been revoked by a court decision; 

8. written statement that you are not the owner of another Spanish driver's license or any other European Union country's driver's license.

Driver's license exchanges for categories A1, A, B, and BE are typically done without any tests.

Important!

Ukrainian citizens who have been granted temporary protection in Spain and entered the country in a car with Ukrainian registration have 213 days from the day they were granted temporary protection to register their vehicle in Spain.
