The procedure for taking the dead in Ukraine abroad

The movement of bodies, urns with ashes or remains of the deceased across the border of Ukraine is carried out upon presentation of the following documents:

1. Written application of the citizen:

• In any form, containing a request to move the deceased abroad.

1. Death certificate:

• Issued by a civil registry office in Ukraine or a corresponding document confirming the fact of death issued by a competent authority of a foreign country.

1. Certificate of a forensic medical expert:

• A document that confirms that the body of the deceased and the coffin (urn) do not contain any items that are prohibited for transportation across the state border.

Special conditions:

• The transfer is carried out in the presence of an official of the relevant customs authority.
• The entire process must comply with the sanitary standards and regulations of the country to which the body or ashes are to be transported.

It is recommended to clarify additional requirements of the destination country, as the conditions of transportation may depend on local legislation.
