Traveling with temporary protection/refugee status

Share

In Germany, the trips are classified as follows:

- short-term – up to 3 weeks (21 calendar days);

- long-term – up to 6 months; and

- return to the country.

If you have a residence permit, you can travel back to Ukraine for up to three weeks (21 calendar days) per year, including weekends and holidays.

Besides, if you receive financial support to cover your living costs (Bürgergeld), before travelling you must apply to the job center (Jobcenter) at your place of residence to preserve your right to such financial support.

The job center (Jobcenter) is a public service that:

- helps people to find a job, an apprenticeship, or further training; and

- gives financial support to people with no or low income to secure their basic livelihood.

The application must include:

- the duration of the trip;

- the dates of departure and entry into the country; and

- the destination.

Important!

You should provide a reasoning for short-term travel, as immigration authorities may cancel your residence permit.
