Ukrainians with Temporary protection can receive full reimbursement of medical expenses from the French health insurance system (Assurance maladie) under the universal healthcare program (Protection Universelle Maladie, PUMa) and the compulsory supplementary health insurance (CSS).
To obtain a certificate of eligibility for health insurance, contact the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) in your place of residence.
Each time you see a doctor, you must show your health insurance certificate to the doctor.
French health insurance covers all types of medical care and the costs of medical appointments, dental surgery and care, midwifery services, as well as the cost of prescription drugs or laboratory tests.
If you need to see a specialist in a particular field, you should first see your general practitioner (family doctor), who will refer you to a specialist. If you need to undergo medical therapy or a course of treatment, you should also see a general practitioner, who will write a prescription and refer you to a specialist if necessary.
The health insurance covers the costs of eyeglasses, dental devices, hearing aids and other medical devices. You can also use medical and psychological support services.
If you do not yet have a temporary residence permit indicating your status as a recipient of temporary protection, and you need urgent or non-urgent medical care, you should contact the nearest hospital with your passport or any other identification document.
As for Ukrainians who are on the territory of France but are not persons with temporary protection status:
If you are legally residing in France (you have a residence permit) and you can prove that you have lived in France for more than 3 months, you are entitled to general medical protection (Protection Universelle Maladie, PUMa). This insurance covers part of your healthcare costs. You pay for the healthcare services, and then the health insurance reimburses you for part of these costs.
If you cannot provide proof of three months of residence in France, you can sign a health insurance contract with a private health insurance company of your choice.
If you have a low income, you can get supplementary health insurance in addition to the general health insurance. This is an extra help to cover the costs of medical services.
