Access to healthcare facilities

Free medical insurance in the Czech Republic is provided to adult citizens of Ukraine who have received a temporary protection visa only for the first 150 days, after which you will have to pay for the insurance yourself. However, the Czech Republic will continue to pay for the insurance of minors, students aged from 18 to 26 and elderly people.

If you do not receive a temporary protection visa but another visa, we recommend you visit any VZP branch, where it will be checked whether you are entitled to public health insurance or the possibility of obtaining commercial health insurance.

With valid medical insurance issued in the Czech Republic, you can apply to municipal hospitals for medical assistance.

A website https://lekariproukrajinu.cz/uk/ has been created for general practitioners who provide free assistance to Ukrainian citizens in their offices, where doctors offer emergency treatment for refugees from Ukraine.

So-called UA points were created in all clinical hospitals of the Czech Republic. They provide emergency medical care to adults, children, and teenagers from Ukraine there. Interpreter services can also be offered on-site—list of UA points in the Czech Republic: https://www.mzcr.cz/uapointy.

You can receive free medical assistance from a doctor or undergo an examination by referral from a general practitioner or an emergency doctor.

With a referral, you can contact any free specialist of the patient's choice if there is a place for him. You can find a doctor by speciality and region on the website www.znamylekar.cz or ask for advice from a general practitioner.

You need to register for the appointment in advance. It is most convenient to do it online through the service www.znamylekar.cz.

If an operation is prescribed based on medical indications, the procedure and all necessary accompanying services for preparation and implementation are free of charge for the patient.

To receive medical assistance, a pregnant woman must register with a gynaecologist. Assistance to pregnant women during childbirth is free if you have medical insurance. If a woman gives birth before obtaining a temporary protection visa, the costs of medical care will be compensated by the insurance only if the visa is obtained within 30 days. Her newborn baby is entitled to free medical care for 30 days before receiving its visa. However, to receive free medical care, you must immediately insure the child (within eight days of birth).
