Documentation for transportation in Ukraine bodies of those who died abroad.
In the event of the death of a Ukrainian citizen abroad, it is necessary to contact the nearest Consulate of Ukraine in the territory of a foreign state and provide information about the death, and, if possible, provide the most complete information about the person, namely:
- FULL NAME;
- date of Birth;
- place of residence in Ukraine;
- Passport details of the person (internal and/or international passport).
Important!
Consulates of Ukraine are obliged to assist in obtaining all necessary documents, as well as the return of the body of a person to Ukraine.
To transport the body across the border, you need to obtain from the authorized bodies of the state that recorded the case of death or through the ritual service the following documents:
- death certificate (issued by the country where the citizen died);
- a certificate stating that there are no objects in the body of the deceased and the coffin (urn with ashes), the movement of which is prohibited across the state border of Ukraine (issued by a competent body of a foreign state and legalized by a consular or diplomatic institution of Ukraine abroad).
- passport for transportation of the body.1
The list of documents may depend on the legislation of the country where the citizen of Ukraine died.
After that, you need:
- To carry out an official translation of the documents indicated above in the relevant organizations (for example, private translation agencies) and apostille (stamp "APOSTILLE") the following documents:
- The original document of death;
- The original document, "Passport for the transportation of the body."
You can get information about the place where documents can be apostilled at the consulate.
- Seal the coffin. The coffin must be sealed by the ritual service or the General Consulate of Ukraine.
- Submit the original passport of the deceased person to the General Consulate of Ukraine for making a note about the death of the specified person abroad.

1In different states, such a document may be issued by different authorities. For example, the "Passport for the transport of the body" can be issued at the German civil registration offices - "Standesamt" - simultaneously with the death document.
