Children who have applied for or received a residence permit with temporary protection have the right to attend preschool and school.
Children have the right to attend preschool after they turn 1, if the parents are, for example, working or studying, or if the child has a special need due to the general family situation.
When children turn 3 years old, they have the right to attend preschool, even if their parents do not work or study.
After children turn 6 years old, they have the right to go to school. School is free, all children attend primary school for ten years.
After completing compulsory school education, young people have the right to secondary education if they start their education before the age of 18. In high school, you can prepare for higher education or learn a profession.
In order to enroll your child in an educational institution, contact the municipality where you live. The municipality should inform you about the available preschools and schools and help you further. If you need additional help, contact the Swedish Migration Department.
