Where and how can I get medicines under the "Affordable Medicines" program?

Share

To get medicines under the ‘Affordable Medicines’ programme, you need to follow these steps:

1. See a doctor:

  • Visit your family doctor, general practitioner or paediatrician;
  • If you do not have a signed declaration, the doctor will still be able to write a prescription.

2. Get a prescription:

  • The doctor generates an electronic prescription and provides you with the SMS code of the prescription;
  • In the absence of technical capability, the doctor can write a paper prescription.

3. Find a pharmacy:

  • Go to a pharmacy that participates in the ‘Affordable Medicines’ programme. Such pharmacies are marked with a sticker.
  • You can find out the address of the nearest pharmacy by calling 1677 (NHSU Contact Centre).

4. Get the medicines:

  • Medicines can be obtained free of charge or with a partial co-payment, depending on the cost of the drug and the terms of the programme.
  • To do this, you need to provide an SMS code for an electronic prescription or a paper prescription.

Important:

  • The programme is valid for the treatment of diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, bronchial asthma, epilepsy, diabetes insipidus, etc.
  • Pharmacies participating in the programme have the appropriate ‘Affordable Medicines’ mark.

Note: Medicines can be obtained at any pharmacy participating in the programme, regardless of your place of residence
