Travelling abroad with the temporary / international / special protection status

Share

Temporary protection

You CAN return to Ukraine for an unlimited period of time with a valid travel document and identity card.

In addition, you can travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 consecutive days. In this case, travelling does not lead to the loss of temporary protection.

International protection

You CANNOT return to Ukraine.

Returning may result in cancellation of your status and loss of benefits.

In particular, after your return, the National Asylum Commission may initiate a procedure to find out the reasons and circumstances of your visit to determine whether your return to Ukraine is related to the end of the risky situation.

In addition, you CANNOT travel to other countries in the status of a refugee or a person granted subsidiary protection (i.e., in both cases, enjoying international protection), as travelling will lead to the loss of international protection.

Special protection

You CANNOT return to Ukraine because you have declared a threat of persecution or life. If you return, you will lose your special protection and benefits.

However, you can travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 consecutive days. In this case, travelling does not lead to the loss of special protection.
