Citizens of Ukraine can provide information on moving pets from Ukraine to Italy to the e-mail address [email protected].
To provide information to the competent veterinary services, citizens should indicate/provide:
- a type and number of animals;
- animal identification documents (if possible);
- the name of the animal owner; and
- a destination address in Italy.
Owners or guardians will be able to bring pets (cats, dogs and ferrets) from Ukraine only if the following requirements are met:
- the animal has an implanted microchip;
- the animal is vaccinated against rabies (vaccination must be up-to-date and carried out no earlier than the microchip is installed);
- the animal has a valid European-style veterinary passport, which is issued by state veterinary institutions and confirms the installation of a microchip and vaccination; and
- for dogs: it is necessary to have a leash and a muzzle with you.
The veterinary passport must contain:
- a sign of comprehensive vaccination against viral diseases. The last vaccination must be carried out no later than 30 days and no earlier than 12 months before the date of departure;
- a photo of the animal before it reaches the age of 12 months;
- chipping mark indicating the date of chipping and localisation of the microchip;
- a sign of vaccination against rabies (name of the vaccine, signature, stamp, date); and
- information about treatments against ecto- and endoparasites (against fleas and worms).
You also need to have with you a certificate on the determination of the titre of antibodies against the rabies virus in the animal's blood, obtained between 4 and 12 months after vaccination.
When crossing the border with an animal, it is necessary to have a Form 1 veterinary certificate, which is issued by a state veterinarian no earlier than 3 days before taking the animal abroad, after a clinical examination, in the presence of a veterinary passport with an identification mark and a blood test certificate.
In addition, you must provide:
- an international veterinary certificate for the animal;
- a certificate that the animal does not represent breeding value or a certificate on the breeding value of the animal with an indication of its estimated value; and
- a licensed container for transporting the animal.
