Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine before 24 February 2022 and are now in a Schengen country do not need a visa to travel to France.
You will be legally residing within the Schengen area for 90 days. You can, if you wish, obtain protection in the country in which you are staying.
In France, you can obtain temporary protection, an exceptional measure authorised by a decision of the Council of the European Union of 4 March 2022. As a person under temporary protection, you will be issued with a temporary residence permit (autorisation provisoire de séjour, APS) indicating the recipient of temporary protection.
Temporary protection can be granted to:
- Citizens of Ukraine who resided on its territory before 24.02.2022;
- persons who are not citizens of Ukraine, but the Ukrainian authorities have granted them protection (international or relevant state protection);
- persons who are not citizens of Ukraine but have a valid permanent residence permit issued by the Ukrainian authorities and cannot safely and permanently return to their country of origin;
- family members of a person who meets points 1 or 2 (family members are: spouse, unmarried minor children and relatives who are dependent on you).
Your rights after obtaining temporary protection in France:
- Issuance of a temporary residence permit in France for six months with the mark "recipient of temporary protection";
- payment of asylum seeker's allowance;
- Permission to work in France;
- access to medical care through healthcare services;
- education of minors;
- support in obtaining housing.
The use of temporary protection does not exclude the right to obtain refugee status.
