Rights granted to people with the status of temporary protection

Persons granted temporary protection have the right to:

  • Residence - legal stay in the territory of the country that granted temporary protection.
  • Work - the possibility of official employment, as well as access to adult education, vocational training and practical training in the workplace.
  • Education for children - the right to access school education for children under temporary protection.
  • Housing - the provision by the state of temporary housing or access to social housing.
  • Social security - the right to receive social assistance and other forms of social protection depending on the level of income.
  • Medical care - access to the healthcare system, including basic medical care and emergency medical services.
  • Obtaining refugee status - the ability to apply for refugee status in the future, if provided for by the legislation of the host country.
  • Freedom of movement - the ability to travel outside the country that has granted temporary protection in accordance with international agreements.

This list is a minimum guarantee under the EU Temporary Protection Directive. Host countries may grant additional rights and extend their scope to persons with temporary protection status.
