Who carries out death registration:

  • Registration of the death of a citizen of Ukraine abroad is carried out by the consul of Ukraine.

Where the registration is carried out:

  • At the last place of residence of the deceased.
  • At the place of death.
  • At the place of discovery of the body.
  • At the place of burial.

Who can apply:

  • Relatives of the deceased.
  • Competent authorities of the host country.
  • Administration of the medical institution where the death occurred.
  • Other persons.

Required documents:

  1. Medical document of death:
  • Issued by a medical institution or competent authority in the country of residence.
  • The document must be translated into Ukrainian and legalized in accordance with the established procedure.
  1. Death certificate:
  • Issued by the competent authorities of the host country.

Special cases:

  • In case of death of a citizen of Ukraine on the road (on a sea, river, aircraft, train or other vehicle), registration is carried out at the nearest diplomatic mission or consular office of Ukraine.

Obtaining a death certificate:

  • The certificate is issued to the close relatives of the deceased.
  • The certificate together with the passport document of the deceased may be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for further transfer to relatives.
