Important!
Ukrainians can stay in Spain as tourists for 90 days in a 6-month period without obtaining the necessary permits. The days under the visa-free regime can be calculated using a special calculator on the European Union's website. If staying in Spain for more than 90 days is necessary, the Spanish government allows Ukrainian temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine to stay in Spain and obtain temporary protection, which the person may refuse at any time and leave the country, or become a refugee.
Temporary protection in Spain allows for one year of living, working, or studying in Spain, with an automatic extension for up to three years without the need to apply for asylum.
Temporary protection in Spain includes the following rights:
- Permission to reside;
- Permission to work;
- Access to social security (accommodation, legal and psychological assistance, social support, language learning, etc.);
- Access to medical services;
- Access to education for children under 18 years of age, under the same conditions as citizens of the country;
- Validity of Ukrainian driving license in Spain for one year.
Documents can be obtained at police stations or the Centers for Reception, Assistance, and Coordination (CREADE) in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, and Alicante. Citizens are only received by appointment; the phone number is (+34) 91 047 44 44. (24 hours, in Ukrainian and Spanish).
You will need to provide the following information in order to obtain temporary protection status:
- An application for temporary protection is made in person by the individual to police officers at the above-mentioned locations. Among other things, the application must include identification information, family information, and information on residency in Ukraine;
- Identification and travel documents, as well as any other information required to demonstrate compliance with the requirements for obtaining temporary protection.
Within 24 hours, a decision on the status will be made. It costs nothing to submit a request for processing.
