Is the father's/mother's consent required for the child's departure abroad?

Share

If the child is 16 years old or older:

  • The child can travel abroad independently without parental consent.

If the child is under 16 years old:

  • The child can travel abroad if accompanied by:
  • One of the parents.
  • Grandparents, adult brother, sister, stepmother, stepfather, adoptive parent or guardian.
  • An adult person authorized by parents (adoptive parents) or guardians. In this case, a written application certified by the guardianship and trusteeship authority is required.

Important during martial law:

1. The notarized consent of the other parent is not required if the child is traveling with one parent.

  • This rule applies to children under the age of 16.

2. Restrictions for male accompanying persons:

  • Men accompanying a child cannot cross the border unless they are included in the list of categories exempt from military service or mobilization.

Recommendation:

Before departure, check with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for current requirements, as the rules are subject to change.
