Can I refuse the treatment offered by the doctor?

Share

Yes, you have the right to refuse treatment offered by a doctor.

Main provisions:

From the age of 14, a person has the right to be independent:

  • to choose a doctor;
  • choose a healthcare facility;
  • choose treatment methods in accordance with the doctor's recommendations;
  • refuse the proposed treatment.

Refusal of treatment:

  • must be informed and voluntary;
  • must be made in writing (if required by a medical institution);
  • a healthcare professional is obliged to explain the consequences of such a refusal.

Exceptions

The right to refuse does not apply in cases of emergency medical care when

  • there is a threat to the person's life or health;
  • the person is unable to express his/her will due to a critical condition.

In such cases, healthcare professionals are obliged to provide assistance regardless of the patient's consent.

Important!

If you refuse treatment, the doctor has the right to make a corresponding entry in the patient's medical record to record the fact of refusal and inform you of the possible consequences.
