Car registration and driver's license in Estonia

Regarding the validity of the Ukrainian driver's license

Citizens of Ukraine can use a Ukrainian driver's license within a year after registering their address in the Population Register. At the end of this period, you need to exchange your Ukrainian driver's license by contacting the Department of Transport of Estonia and submitting the following documents:

• an identity document;

• a medical certificate about the state of health;

• photo and signature sample;

• Ukrainian driver's license, which is subject to replacement.

Regarding using a car in Estonia

First of all, Estonia requires all drivers to have car insurance. In order to legally enter and stay in the territory of Estonia, you need to have a valid policy, the so-called "Green Card".

Also, if your car has been in Estonia for over a year, you must register it. The annual period is counted from the day you received temporary protection. To register a car, you need to contact the Department of Transport. You must have your vehicle registration certificate and your identity document with you.

Important! If you are going to use your vehicle only to return to Ukraine after the end of the crisis, and you don't use it on the territory of Estonia, you don't need to register it.
