How to apply for a pension from home: step-by-step instructions using Diia.Signature

Today, to apply for a pension in Ukraine, you don't have to stand in queues or even visit personally a Pension Fund office. Thanks to digital services, all can be done completely online — from home, using your computer and smartphone, through the web portal of the Pension Fund of Ukraine and the Diia.Signature.

This is especially useful for:

Elderly people who experience difficulties visiting government institutions in-person.
Internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Ukrainians living abroad or in the occupied territories.

What is Diia.Signature?

Diia.Signature is an alternative to an electronic digital signature (EDS) that allows you to sign documents remotely. There is no need to install anything additionally but the Diia app.

Step-by-step instructions: how to apply for a pension online

1. Prepare the necessary documents

Scanned copies of documents are required (passport, identification code, documents confirming the right to a pension, etc.).

Important:

scans should be colour, clear, and legible;
documents should be scaned in JPG, JPEG or PDF formats, and the documents containing more than one page must be attached as a single file;
the size of each file must not exceed 1 MB;
file names must match the content (for example, passport.pdf, code.jpg).

2. Get Diia.Signature

If you don't already have one:

Download the mobile application "Diia " on your smartphone.
Go to the Diia.Signature.
Click on "Activate Diia.Signature" and complete the verification with a photo identification.
Come up with and remember a 5-digit code for signing.

3. Log in to your Pension Fund personal account

Open https://portal.pfu.gov.ua on your computer.
In the upper right corner, click "Sign in" and select "Sign in via Diia.Signature".
Click "Get login code". A QR code will appear on the screen.
Open the Diia app on your smartphone and scan the QR code.
Click "Confirm", activate the signature, go through photo identification, and enter a 5-digit code.

After successful log in, you will automatically be redirected to your personal account on the Pension Fund portal.

4. Fill in the pension application form

In your personal account on the Pension Fund portal:

Go to the section "On pensions".
Select the Application for Pension.
Select the type of pension (e.g., old-age, service, disability).
Fill in the form.
Attach scanned copies of the required documents.
Click "Generate application".
Sign it using Diia.Signature.
You will receive a signature request in the Diia app on your smartphone. Click "Sign and send to Pension Fund".

5. Keep track of the result

You can track your application in the "My Applications" section in your personal account on the Pension Fund portal.

After submitting the application, do I need to visit the Pension Fund?

Once your pension is approved, the last step is to apply for a pension certificate. You can also complete theapplication for the pension certificate online through your personal account on the Pension Fund portal. A paper pension certificate can be collected at the Pension Fund of Ukraine office, while an electronic pension certificate can be obtainedat the bank, specified in the application.
