How to apply online for grant to start or develop a veteran`s business?

The state actively supports the development of veteran businesses by providing grants that contribute not only to economic growth but also to the social reintegration of defenders and their families. Such initiatives are aimed at helping veterans' families realise their entrepreneurial potential and secure stable employment. Such support is an important step towards strengthening civil society and creating new jobs.  


Who can receive a grant?  

Family members (spouses) of:  

  • a combatant or a person with a disability caused by war;  
  • a combat participant or a person with a disability as a result of war who died (went missing) or died as a result of injury, contusion or mutilation;   
  • fallen (deceased) Defenders of Ukraine. 


What is the amount of the grant?  

The amount of the grant is determined according to the amount of the request and, for family members, does not exceed:  

  • UAH 250,000 in case of a commitment to create one job;  
  • From UAH 250,000 and up to UAH 500,000 in case of a commitment to create two jobs.  


How long does the state allocate for project implementation?  

The term of implementation of a grant-funded project to create or develop your own business is three, five, or seven years, at the recipient's discretion.  


Where can the funds be spent?  

  • purchase of furniture, equipment, vehicles;    
  • purchase of livestock, poultry and bees, young animals and poultry, etc;  
  • purchase of licensed software (such expenses should not exceed 50% of the grant amount in total);  
  • purchase of equipment on lease terms (such costs should not exceed 50% of the total grant amount);  
  • equipment rental fees (such costs should not exceed 30% of the grant amount);  
  • rent for the use of non-residential premises, land, fishery water body, etc. (such costs should not exceed 25% of the grant amount);  
  • marketing and advertising services (such costs should not exceed 10% of the grant amount).  


How to apply for a grant online?  


Log in to your personal account on the Diia portal  

  • Open the website https://diia.gov.ua/ on your computer;  
  • In the upper right corner, click "Login" → , select "Log in with Diia.Signature";  
  • Click "Get a login code" - a QR code will appear on the screen;  
  • Open the Diia app on your smartphone at →  and scan the QR code;  
  • Click "Confirm", activate the signature, go through photo identification, and enter the five-digit code.  


After successful authorisation, you will be automatically logged into your personal account on the Diia portal.  


From the catalogue of services, select "Starting a business" and then "Grant for veterans and their families"

Note: once submitted, the application cannot be edited.  


Sign the application using Diia.Signature  

You will receive a signature request in the Diia app on your smartphone. Click Sign and send.  


How long will it take to review the application?  

The decision is made by the State Employment Centre within 15 working days.  

The decision to grant or refuse will be reported in your personal account on the Diia portal.  


What should I do after the decision to provide a grant is made?  

If the State Employment Centre approves your application, contact Oschadbank or PrivatBank within 20 business days to open an account and sign a microgrant agreement.  


What are the conditions of the grant?  

A mandatory condition is the creation of jobs within six months, depending on the amount.  

Please note: the jobs must be filled in accordance with the selected business plan:   

  • 3 years - employment for at least 2 years;  
  • 5 years - employment for at least 4 years;  
  • 7 years - employment for at least 6 years. 

 

Who monitors the project implementation?  

The State Employment Centre monitors and controls the fulfilment of the terms of the grant agreement, in particular through on-site inspections of the place of business, at least once every six months.  


Will I have to return the grant to the state?  

You will only have to return the grant if you fail to fulfil your obligations to the state.
