In Lviv, information meetings were held for internally displaced people on the international mechanism for recording damage — the Register of Damage for Ukraine (RD4U). After the explanations, participants were also assisted in submitting applications. The meetings were conducted by the NGO “Lviv Mediation Center” together with the “Vilni Razom” centre and the administration of the local modular town.
Lawyer Andrii Shchur held an information session and clearly explained:
After the meeting, some of the participants, together with the lawyer, submitted their first applications specifically under Category A1.1 — the category that is most relevant for internally displaced people.
Later, at the request of the administration of the modular town, another such meeting took place at a different address. Participants asked many questions: for many of them, it was the first opportunity to learn about the Register and understand how to record the damage caused.
After the information part, the lawyer provided individual assistance to those who found it difficult to submit an application on their own. The overwhelming majority of participants were older people. Not everyone had a laptop or sufficient digital skills, and technical difficulties may arise while completing online forms. That is why practical support nearby often becomes decisive, enabling people to use this mechanism and not remain alone with their problem.
Thanks to such meetings, more people learned about the Register of Damage for Ukraine, received answers to their questions, and were able to submit their first applications. For many, this became the first step toward recording the damage caused at the international level.
Lviv Mediation Center provides free legal aid to war-affected populations in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council through the Consortium led by the Danish Red Cross and DIGNITY, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
