Sofia is 76 years old and comes from the Lypetsk hromada in the Kharkiv raion. As a result of the escalation of hostilities, her house was severely damaged and Sofia herself was evacuated.
In June 2025, Sofia turned to a lawyer from the Caritas Kharkiv charity fund with a request to help her participate in the state programme eRestoration. During the consultation, lawyer Iryna found out that the woman had inherited the house after her mother's death. The available documents included an extract from the inheritance register, but the inheritance had not been formalised and the ownership of the house had not been registered in the State register of real rights to immovable property. This prevented Sofia from participating in compensation programmes.
The lawyer helped locate the notarial archive, found out the workplace of the notary of the Kharkiv District State Notary Office, and provided a step-by-step algorithm for accepting the inheritance.
Sofia received a certificate of inheritance and an extract from the State register of real rights to immovable property on the registration of ownership of the house. Now she can apply to participate in the e-Restoration programme and register her losses in the Register of Losses for Ukraine (RD4U).
The charity organisation Caritas Kharkiv provides free legal aid to people affected by the war in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) thanks to financial support from the European Union.
