Olena Petrivna and her husband lived in Donetsk Oblast and dreamed of moving abroad to visit their relatives, as it was dangerous to stay at home due to the full-scale hostilities.
Unfortunately, in 2023, Olena's husband died due to a serious illness. The woman, who has a group 1 disability, was left alone. She decided to go abroad to visit her relatives so as not to be alone in a difficult situation. However, Olena had never applied for a passport before. To do so, she applied to the territorial office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMS).
The SMS employees explained that in order to get a passport, she needed to register in the electronic queue on the SMS portal and receive an appointment slip.
Olena Petrivna, an elderly woman without access to the Internet, turned to the Dialogue of Communities charitable organization for help. Natalia, a lawyer, explained the necessary steps, helped her register in the electronic queue and accompanied her in the process of obtaining a passport.
Due to the large number of people applying to the State Migration Service in Donetsk Oblast, it was not possible to register in the electronic queue in Ms. Olena's hometown. Therefore, it was decided to help her apply for a passport in another city.
Thanks to the lawyer's support, Ms. Olena received a passport. This document allows her to travel abroad to visit her relatives and no longer be alone.
This free assistance was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the CO “Dialogue of Communities” with the Danish Refugee Council and funding from the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine.
