Olena and her grandchildren, whom she has taken custody of, are IDPs and currently live in the village of Artelarshchyna in Poltava region, far from the district center and service providers. Unfortunately, another of her granddaughters died in the city of Dnipro, and she did not have time to take custody of her grandchildren and transport them to a safe place. In Dnipro, she was denied a death certificate for her granddaughter.
This situation was a big blow to Ms. Olena, as she had been taking care of all the issues related to the child's life on her own. The death certificate was essential to officially notify the school and other institutions of the loss.
For legal assistance, Ms. Olena turned to Daria Malinnikova, a lawyer of the IAA NGO, who provided a detailed explanation of the procedure for obtaining a certificate at the place of actual residence, a list of required documents, as well as the mechanism for obtaining this document by other relatives who are not close in kinship.
Following the lawyer's recommendations, in August 2024, Ms. Olena received her granddaughter's death certificate. Thanks to this, she is now able to settle all unresolved legal issues related to this loss.
The NGO “Institute of Analysis and Advocacy” provides free legal aid in Poltava region through cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and funding from the European Union.
