Recently, Ms. Raisa turned to Oleksandr Peftibai, a lawyer at Caritas Mariupol, a DRC-supported charity fund, for help. Due to active hostilities, she was forced to leave Avdiivka and move to Dnipro.
Her home was destroyed as a result of the hostilities. When she applied for compensation for the destroyed housing, she was informed that she needed to register her ownership of the apartment in the State Register of Real Property Rights.
She was denied registration of her apartment ownership because the state registration of her apartment ownership was carried out by the Donetsk Bureau of Technical Inventory, and the paper archives of the Bureau of Technical Inventory are located in the occupied territory. Therefore, there is no possibility of obtaining information about the registered rights from the entity that conducted the state registration of rights.
The lawyer of Caritas Mariupol collected all the necessary documents and drafted a statement of claim to the court. In addition to legal aid, Ms. Raisa was provided with financial assistance to pay for court costs, which was also important for her progress in the case.
The court granted the claim, which allows the woman to register the ownership of her apartment and receive compensation for the destroyed housing in the future.
Receiving free legal aid by IDPs from Donetsk region was made possible thanks to the cooperation of Caritas Mariupol with the Danish Refugee Council and funding from the European Union's humanitarian aid.
